it was almost as if it was just last year where the librarian just handed out our current set pieces. Mr Poh conducting slowly for ECR and a lot of us are obviously 'struggling' (:
we had a lot of sectionals and everyone was practicing the pieces.

well, for me, i was thinking somewhere way back in 2006 (:
i was sec1 then. i entered in the outdoor time when Ping Yi & Springfield was a combine band named Titans Marching Band, lead by Zack. we marched under the blazing hot sun which is so unbearable. the worse punishment i get was when the drum major made us run 2 rounds around the field of Sprinfield Secondary. PLUS, the field is MUCH bigger then Ping Yi x.x and some other(:
with loads of effort sweat and blood, i spotted some one trying to video/photo our 'Good Stuff', we were able to clinch a Gold Medal. i remember marching down the field, standing in Se-nan-di-ri position for a long time. eyes watching us as we are a very big band.

2007, Ping Yi Band was alone and very small. Boon Keong lead the band. it's was the indoor period. Aswan batch had entered (: I do remember him as a very short guy, HAHA (:! Our seniors worked very hard. i remembered MrPoh punished the whole band a lot of times. Punish us until we like, it's a regular thing, it's very automatic thing. it's our first indoor in a very long time (: i think our set piece was 'Sunrise' and 'To Challenge the sky and heavens above' . with that, we clinch our very first Silver medal.

2008, Outdoor time. Tahir lead the band. we had volunteers from other CCAs such as Malik (: the same hardwork was put in and we clinch our very first Silver medal, Ping Yi alone.

2009, Indoor. we have to change song from ' Overture Jubiloso' to 'Folklore for band' but we are able to clinch a silver (:

2010! OUTDOOR :D ! i know that most of you sure do remember the time . 10April. we had 2 cca joinning us, Dance & Aunklung. In a long time we clinch a Gold Medal (: we made history, a legacy we proofed .

2011, indoor:} here is where we stand.
to come this far is not easy without the scoldings from Mr Poh & Mr Yup, long sectional hours to get your melody&tunings right, schools money flying away for tutors, every single one cooperation, determinations and motivation, we might be working on another piece now.
it takes two hands to clap.
will we be able make another legacy to leave behind?

ANYWAY (: ! we should enjoy the music and not be so tense up. relax and everything will come to you. we have worked so hard, so why let our effort go to waste because of that ? it's time to 'Show Off' what we have, what WE can do.

For today's practice , we still have a long long long LONG way to go back to the standard we all know and i know that you guys can do it ! put your heart and soul in those formations and song. don't do it for band only but also in your studies (:

we have only 2 more days to practice and the SYF preview will be the next day . only 10 mins to be on the ground to practice, the next day will be your big day already and there isn't any much time left. so come on guys , lets put in all our effort . this will be your last time on the ground together with your seniors :) so lets work hard all the way ! cooperate with one another. remember the PYMB cheer ? (: the bond with your sections and friends around you while singing and jogging ?

put in some effort to come in the morning to practice your formation . your own effort .

PYMB , when you are on that ground , stand strong , breath in and out , reflect on all your gimmicks, the tempo and timing is very important . don't and never slow down . look at the conductor on when to come in TOGETHER . ******always check your spacing****** .

Dear PYMB,
As you guys know, we have about 5 more weeks left together. To be more exact, 42 more days to COMPETITION day itself and 24 more days to our first and ONLY rehearsal at the competition ground itself, Singapore Indoor Stadium. You guys have gone through thick and thin, numerous scoldings, punishments, sweat, tears, and even lost of blood. *As some of you would have noticed, most have even lost weight!* Think about it, we have actually gone through all that TOGETHER, as a TEAM! At first, im sure, most of you we uncertain about certain things. Now, believe it or not, we're already halfway through this journey! YOU determine how YOU want the end of this chapter to be. Happy? Sad? Regret? Fulfilling? YOU decide. All your MONTHS of hardwork is going to go just like that in matter of MINUTES. And most probably, some of you are not going be seeing the person beside you in the formation as often as you did when there's band. While some of you are going to remain as best friends. And I can GARAUNTEE you that you'll feel awkward, like something is missing in your life a few days after SYF.

Think about it, every band practice, you guys get much closer to each other, more bonded, learning to accept each other for who they are. You guys not only make friends, but along the way you guys learn values,values that that will guide you when you step out of school and enter the REAL world out there, values that builds up your character as a person, a character which people will remember. In fact, you guys are the luckiest people on earth! Who would thought you'll get all of these by joining a band? Those people out there who didn't join PING YI MARCHING BAND are really missing out on alot of things! Don't you guys thing so?! Therefore, treasure every moment! Trust me, you guys will only really realise that PYMB is the BEST place to be in when you guys graduate! Even till now, I LOVE THE BAND! How I wish I could still study in Ping Yi and be in the band. I really miss marching with my instrument, performing for events, performing for the school, and the best of all is, MARCHING IN FRONT OF THOUSANDS OF PEOPLE for SYF! Thats the best experience of all! Standing proud and tall to show those thousands of people what PYMB IS ALL ABOUT! But every beginning has and ending. My chapter ended in 2007 and let me tell you, those four years in band was the best "storybook' i have ever written! *Ill give myself FULL MARKS for that essay!* (:

So, come on guys! Lets finish this 'storybook' of yours with the best ending ever! An ending which you guys and everyone will remember! We, the Alumni's are doing our best and our part to help you guys. So, why not you guys do your part by helping yourself! Keep motivating each other! Whenever you're tired, remember, you guys are not going through this alone! Lets persevere! Remember your school motto 'Perseverence Yeilds Success'! and of course the band's "Conquer the mind, Achieve the Dream"!

SYF Outdoor is coming super soon ! i know that you guys are giving your best in every practice but don't just give up when we are half way there . we even have parents supporting us ! so don't let your guards down just because it's too tiring . all of us are not doing this alone , we are doing this as a band, to bring up the culture our seniors have left behind , they have put in their effort in bring this band up, so it's our turn now to continue for them and not to just throw away what they have did for Ping Yi Marching Band !

remember to bring your 1.5L water bottle for every band practice, VERY IMPORTANT . this is just the beginning but we have very little time left . we don't wish any people fainting just because you are lack in water . it's just wasting time and the person time in helping you , to just bring to the side . band members, SYF is just 2 more days away. are you prepared? well, you should be. after all the strenous and tedious hard work that you have put in all these long and hard months, you have got to shine and show what Ping Yi Marching Band has to offer. remember all that you've learned, and apply to every aspect there is.

let's do it for the graduating seniors, lets do it for the Alumnis that have diligently come back to render their help and teach us everything there is, let's do it for the people who believe in the band, let's do it for the school. but most importantly, let's do it for ourselves. for we know that if we have done our very best at the competiton day itself, regardless of the medal that we get, we will still stand proud and will leave without any regrets.

so, c'mon fellow musicians and let us push to the very end. don't let any setbacks now dampen your spirits. seeing the way we are now, i am positive that everyone will run for that final stretch, and will do their very best in making Ping Yi Marching Band the best in the land.

Summarising ,

1) First impression- Beginning of Overture, make it sound like a Grand opening. All the best Trumpets, Trombones & Percussion!

2) Tuning - Listen to one another.

3) Blends the sound as one band- DO NOT stick out!

4) Dynamic balance - Control, do not blast.

5) Feel the music while playing - It creates the beautiful illusion.

6) Be Confident of yourself and everything will go fine.

7) Focus, Concentrate- Don't let nerves overtake you.

8) Whatever happens, DO NOT breakdown. Just Carry On.

Like what the other post had mentioned.
We only have 3 days left.
What we do in this 3 days will determine what medal we will get.
Please.....
Please.....
Practice hard for these 3 days to attain the medal we aimed for.
To be honest, we are already in disadvantage as we are in the last day slot.
But definitely, there's a way or solution out for us.
Firstly, we must be able to give the judges the feeling of hearing a new nice music and sound by playing well for Overture No.1.
In order to do that, we must be able to play the beginning which is the fanfare of No.1 very nicely and proud with energy.
We shall leave this to the trumpeters, trombonists and percussionist to do the job.
Secondly, we must be able to blend in with the band, must be really in tune.
Listen....Listen....Listen.
The moment the judges hear some errors in the tunning, MARKS ARE BEING MINUS!!!
& they might even comment on that.
When u missed out some parts of the songs, do not be scared and also try not to come in since u already missed it unless u're very good at blending.
If this happen, come in on the next bar or note instead.
& Lastly, this is something i find it the most important.
PLAY THE MUSIC WITH FEELINGS AND FROM YOUR HEART!!
Try to relax, so that the judges would feel relaxing when they hear our music.
Play with feelings and expressions, so that the judges would understand.
Let them enjoy especially our Overture No.1 Part F.
Let them feel, while we are playing.
If we got this 3 things perfect, I don't think gold is even a problem to us.
But the problem with us is that we don't hear each other play.
There's still time for us to work on it.
Cherish the next 7hours of band practice left before competition.
Make your graduating seniors proud by doing our best and get the medal we want in the competition.
Come to think of it, will you be satisfied if you were to graduate a medal like bronze or even COP?
I know you all still got outdoor left.
But how about those who are graduating??
You all must really consider the feelings of those who are graduating this year.
Okay after talking non-stop, i decided to end here.

Well i guess everyone had heard about what happen to jonathan already.
Upon hearing the news, everyone's expression was very sad, some even cried.
Cheer up!
I guess jonathan would not want us to be sad afterall when competition is nearing.
All we can do individually now for him is to pray hard that he will be out of coma soon!
One last thing before i end,
